Intern Program

We are closed to intern applicants for 2024-2025. We are humbled by the number of applications we received and wish we had the space for everyone that would be an excellent fit.

Interns must be strongly allied with marginalized communities, and have a commitment to meeting the needs of queer and trans individuals. We prioritize applicants who have already demonstrated this commitment, but will consider highly motivated applicants that are “new” to learning about decolonizing their practice and working with our queer community. We especially invite interns who are clinicians of color, queer, and/or trans to apply.

Requirements

  • practice from an anti-racist, queer-centered lens.

  • conduct a minimum of 10-12 client sessions per week (the first two weeks are reserved for training with no clients, and we give you ~a month ramp up time ). You’ll be expected to log additional indirect hours too.*

  • attend weekly supervision (exact time collaboratively determined), intern supervision group (2nd Weds from 2pm-3pm), and monthly team meetings (1st Weds of the month 2pm-3pm). We encourage you to participate in other consult groups and trainings as well, and prefer candidates that can make time for at least some of these opportunities.

  • access to reliable internet and a private space with a desk set up to conduct sessions and/or ability to come to the office in Duvall.

  • must comply with WA state COVID-19 vaccination mandates for health care professionals or have a qualifying exemption—even if you are working remotely.

Benefits

  • weekly feminist supervision with the intern supervisor

  • mentorship around what it means for you to be a clinician

  • focus on ethics in practice from a social justice perspective

  • 1x/month intern supervision group, 1x/month team meetings, opportunity to attend other consult groups

  • trainings, mostly related to queer practice

  • access to tons of curated resources (recent journal articles, books, videos, etc.)

Here’s some of what you WON’T get from us at Whole Valley Therapy:

  • Training in the provision of manualized treatments

  • Discussions of CBT, DBT, or any other EBP without critique of the ways these modalities are often studied, promoted in place of non-Western ways of knowing, or implemented with the folks we serve

  • Supervision that expects you or your supervisor to Know Things and Be The Expert

If you are interested in an internship with us, please send us a cover letter and resume to interns@wholevalleytherapy.com. Please make sure you clearly indicate what program you are in, when your internship begins/ends, your hours requirements, and any other program requirements.

*We pour our hearts and our funding into our interns and their supervisors. The average intern costs us ~$900-$1000/month. With our goal of providing reduced fee services to people who need it, we have this session minimum to make sure we have a sustainable practice. Additional revenue helps fund our pro-bono gender affirming care program.

We encourage you to reach out well in advance of your internship start date with your materials as we have an involved selection process.
